Beauty on a Budget
As a woman I am constantly frustrated and dismayed by our society's emphasis on how a woman should make herself look beautiful. Although I normally enjoy shopping, I have to admit that I get a sinking feeling right in the pit of my stomach whenever it is time to purchase cosmetics. It seems like every time I turn around there is another commercial for a new better mascara that promises to make me look like the supermodel who is wearing it on TV. I have to admit that I have been caught up in the marketing hype from time to time, but now as I am getting older I am starting to learn that some products work just as well for me as others. I am also starting to realize that a less expensive brand may have a comparable quality when considered next to the brand that does all the advertising. Here are three of my secrets for saving on cosmetics.....
Secret #1: The Dollar Store Sells Eye Shadow.
Going to the dollar store for eye shadow saves me a trip to the department store. It helps me avoid their overwhelming displays and focus on what I need. I actually like not having as much selection when it comes to buying eye shadow.
Secret #2: The Discount Department Store Sells Mineral Powder Foundation.
Sorry, big expensive, brands, but I'm not paying more than $10 for my mineral makeup, even if it does do wonders for my skin. I know where my favorite affordable brands are and head straight to them at the department store. Now I can save money and not be overwhelmed by the shear number of makeup choices at the department store.
Secret #3: Walgreens Has a Makeup Consultant and Takes My Coupons.
My skin changes tone from season to season and I don't always know what shade of blush, lipstick, etc. looks best on me. The beauty consultant at Walgreens is always extremely helpful. Mine even stocks her own coupons and lets me use them!
