How To Save Time Cleaning
Many people, at least from my observation, view organization and cleaning as two separate entities altogether. In reality, however, house cleaning and organization go together like peanut butter and jelly. The more organized your home is, the less time your weekly cleaning routine will take. Why? Well, think about it logically. Cleaning up trash and putting objects in their right place are necessary before you can clean the furniture, fixtures, etc which are underneath the objects you are moving. Even if you do not put the objects away, you at least have to move them.
Below are some practical tips designed to serve the two-fold purpose of better organization and faster cleaning.
Consolidate smaller and similar items into larger containers.
I use this tip frequently in the bathroom because my husband and I have so many small grooming products and odds and ends which have their home in the bathroom. Placing several small items into a small plastic bin for each of us helps us to find the things we need when we need them. It also gives me two plastic bins to move rather than all the small items when I clean.
Place cleaning products near what you need to clean.
I love using a Mr. Clean magic eraser as a quick clean-up tool in my kitchen. In the bathroom, it only takes a few seconds to clean the inside of the toilet with a toilet brush and toilet bowl cleaner that are next to the toilet. A quick scrub of the outside of the commode can be done with disposable lysol or clorox wipes or a more eco-friendly clean rag and multi-purpose glass and surface cleaner. The glass and surface cleaner and a new rag can also be used to wipe down the bathroom counter and mirror. For the tub, I go back to my Mr. Clean magic eraser or use the multi-purpose cleaner for that as well. Little things like that can really make a difference. It also takes much less time to clean messes when they are not as bad.
Little by little gets lots and lots done.
Although I learned this saying at a very young age, I did not quite understand it until I began managing my own household. Picking up five things here and ten things there really helps save time in my overall scheme of cleaning. Having a place for commonly used items (such as the Pyrex bowl on my coffee table where my husband and I can quickly drop our keys) save me time and money I would normally spend finding and replacing the items.
Get rid of things you don't use.
This concept is probably both the simplest and the hardest to implement. The less stuff you have, the less you have to clean. Truth be told, however, sentimentality, the thought that we may someday use something, etc. can get in the way of purging unused items. If you rid your home of objects without a purpose, however, you may quickly find that it is a much cleaner and healthier place to live.
