What can you clean in five minutes or less?

The Five Minute Rule
You may be amazed at how small steps can make a big difference in your overall workload. Little things do, in fact, pile up quickly if you do not take control of them. Adding small steps to your tidy up routine (or developing a tidy up routine if you do not have one) can make a bigger impact on your housekeeping than you might think.
Here is an example: Say you or someone in your household eats in the living room while watching television and does not bring a glass to the kitchen. The glass contains a bit of leftover beverage. If you take the glass to the kitchen, rinse it and put it into the dishwasher right away, that does not take too much more effort than simply leaving the glass where it is. On the other hand, a glass left unattended can develop mold, attract insects, grow bacteria, etc (you get the picture) within only a few days if not removed. This puts extra work on you. A bit more effort at the onset of the problem would have saved you much more work in the end.
Okay, lets take another page from our dishes example. In a previous blog post I wrote about a trick that my mother taught me. She would ask my sister and I to each put away five or ten things after supper. Tougher jobs like cleaning a greasy stove might even count for three or four things. It really didn't take long at all, but with me, my sister and my dad all three pitching in that made mom's cleanup job much easier.
Why not try the same thing in your home? Look for small things you can do to make a big difference in your overall cleaning routine. Save time on cleaning and organizing by streamlining your home just like you would if you were working for an employer who paid you based upon your job productivity. You can also make a game out of it. Whatever works for you.

It's dividing your house into zones. If you have a messy house and have guests coming over for dinner, just clean the zones they will see. I have a two story house. I'll clean the first floor (zone1), close the door to the guest room and leave the upstairs messy (zone 2).
It's a way to break it down so it's not as overwhelming!
