Are you looking for a different activity to do with your children? Are you tired of taking them to the mall, the movies, the park or any other place that you have been a hundred times? Do you want to teach them some valuable life skills? If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child is old enough to participate in this activity and you or your spouse can participate, I have an out of the ordinary family activity just for you. Let them build something. Yes, build something.

Lowes, The Home Depot and Habitat for Humanity all offer programs designed especially for children.

Let's start with Lowes. Each month local Lowes stores host their "Build and Grow" clinic. This month (August 2010), youngsters can build a bug box shaped like a beetle or a back to school bus complete with stickers, a special secret compartment, chalk and even a chalk board. As if that wasn't enough fun, children can also be rewarded for their diligent efforts with a free Junior Wendy's Frosty when they participate in the Lowes Build and Grow construction clinic. For more information, visit lowesbuildandgrow.com or your local Lowes Home Improvement store.

Home Depot offers children's construction clinics every other month. You can find more information about Home Depot's kid's workshops at your local home depot retail store or http://www.homeimproverclub.com/workshops.aspx?Type=3. If you are using the website, the link for kids workshops is on the left side of the screen under weekly workshops and do it herself workshops.

Habitat for Humanity offers children's youth construction programs targeted at specific age groups. You can find information about their programs on their website at habitat.org/youthgrograms or by visiting your local Habitat for Humanity.
