Free Pastry Day at Starbucks
What could go better with a made by hand Starbucks specialty drink than a fresh, delicious pastry? A free fresh, delicious pastry. That's right, no charge for the flaky goodness of the delicious pastry, but only if you purchase the handcrafted beverage that compliments the pastry so well.
Nothing is really free, right? Well, not usually. The marketing masterminds at Starbucks are trying to get your attention. More and more businesses are using advertisements such as the one I saw for this special offer in lieu of traditional marketing advertisements because in this down economy, nothing quite gets the attention of cash-strapped consumers quite like the word "free."
At any rate, marketing trickery or not, I as a consumer take advantage of nearly every freebie I can find so long as I do not have to spend too much money on other products to get it. I enjoy offers like this one and appreciate that companies who want my business are trying to think like me. They are starting to realize that consumers don't just want a pretty package, a smiling face or a gimmick that's been done over and over. We want value. We want to know that when we spend a dollar (or two or three or twenty) we are getting something in return. That is why I applaud Starbucks and other companies who are at least trying to give customers a perceived value in their products so we can feel that we are getting the most bang for our buck.
