Finding employment in a tough economy
No one I know is denying that it is a dog eat dog cold world out there. The competition in the American job market is fiercer than ever. How then, are those of us who aren't quite as cut throat going to make it? We need a competitive edge. Lack of financial resources can, however, make it hard to focus upon finding employment. That is why it is so important to think outside the box. For most of us, the first place we turn is to the local newspaper. Logically, that is where many employers have advertised in the past. These days, however, the job market is rapidly changing as employers turn to human resources outsourcing and recommendations from their peers and/or current employees to obtain new hires.
So, what does all this mean for you and me? It means we need to look beyond the local newspaper and network by spreading the word among friends, family and even acquaintances letting them know that we are in the market for a new job.
Temporary employment agencies are also providing "temp jobs" and "temp to hire jobs" which match employees to employers. Often, if you use a temporary agency to help you find employment you do not even have to go through the company's interview process. Instead, you are pre-screened by the temporary agency in an atmosphere that is frequently, at least from my experience, much less pressure-filled. To find local employment agencies, click here for google maps. Next, type "local employment agencies" and the name of your city and state into the search maps box.
