Clutter

The first step toward making your housekeeping routine much easier is to conquer clutter. If you are at all like me (I'm assuming that you are if you're reading this blog), then the shear mention of the word clutter can strike a rather unpleasant chord in your brain. It's a sinking, overwhelming feeling that so many of us have. Each of us, in one way or another, is asking, "but where do I start?" (And you thought you were the only one).
Well, I mentioned in my previous post a few clutter combating techniques, but I would like to add a couple more here which I have found to be particularly effective. I like to call them clutter clicks and trash torture.
Let's start with clutter clicks. Think back to high school. High school was full of cllicks. All the football players hung out together. All the cheerleaders hung out together as did the scholar's bowl team, etc. It wasn't an ideal situation by any means, but you were probably in a click yourself and just didn't realize it. You made friends there and learned things.
It's alot easier to see what you have and how many of certain items you have if you group similar items together, much like students grouped together in your high school's clicks. Start with very broad categories such as clothing, office supplies, papers, etc. You may find it helpful to use large plastic storage bins to help you separate everything, particularly if your space is limited.
As you go through items you will most likely find unnecessary packaging such as boxes, bubble wrap, somewhat sentimental items that you forgot you had but have managed to live without because you thought they were gone forever, etc. If you do not have a specific use for it, throw it out. Getting rid of trash "treasures" can be torturous (hence the name trash torture), but trust me it's for your own good. You will feel much better once it is out of our life.
On a happy note, think of all the space you will have when you can see that floor again and go for it!
