Well, it's that time of year again. The holiday season is officially upon us. Thanksgiving and Christmas can be busy times in the lives of many parents. Unfortunately, however, crime never takes a holiday.

One type of crime that I think is often overlooked this time of year is crime against children. Children are especially vulnerable when parents are distracted with buying gifts and preparing for holiday meals and other festivities. In these challenging times, however, it is more important than ever for parents and other concerned citizens to remain vigilant.

Below are some websites with additional information on child safety to help you come up with a plan to keep your children safe throughout this holiday season and beyond...

1) Free and Low Cost Child Identification Kits:

4) Free Government Grants and Other Funding for Community Safety Programs:

5) Local Resources

Your local police department and/or sheriff's office may offer additional resources such as a Citizen's Police Academy, Awareness Classes, Community Watch Ideas, and much more.

Your law enforcement agencies may also have websites. Google the name of your city or county and state to find your local government's official website. It should end in ".gov." The city or county website should offer a link to local law enforcement agencies if those links are available.
