Are you feeling overwhelmed by clutter?

Do you feel like every time you turn around there is more clutter in your home? Do you feel like every time you organize something it's three steps forward and one step (or two or three steps) back? If so, you're not alone. Many of us struggle with having more stuff than we can handle. So were do you start when you're raining it all in? Here are some tips from my own experience:
Step 1) Put it in black and white
Write or type out what is bothering you. It's therapeutic, I promise.
Step 2) Prioritize
Yes, clutter is overwhelming, but if you tackle the most important stuff first that will free up some space in your mind to help you figure out how to conquer the smaller problems.
Step 3) Divide and conquer
Have you ever heard the saying "Rome wasn't built in a day?" How about "little by little gets lots and lots done?" Both of those are true statements. If you can divide your larger projects into smaller and more manageable goals you will gain much more momentum in your overall big picture. Set realistic achievement goals for each day.
Step 4) One room at a time, choose a starting and ending point. This really goes along with step 3. It is easier to start in one spot and work your way around the room than to try to tackle an entire room at once. Focusing on one room at a time also reduces the number of steps you will need to take.
Step 5) Separate, don't just move stuff around. Organize your items into trash, move to another room, give away, sell, homeless (items that need a permanent storage place), needs attention (bills, etc) and other. Put items that have a permanent location in the room where you are working away.
Step 6) Set a time limit for yourself and keep moving. DO NOT stop to reminisce over those photos you found or that old toy, etc that you thought you'd lost forever. Move on and go toward the goal.
Step 7) Finish up. Place items that you have separated into piles or boxes into their proper locations.
